Sweet Basil Lemonade

Summertime is the perfect time for a glass of this refreshing homemade lemonade.  Quench your thirst with our July Garden Grown recipe.

ingredients

  • 2 cups  lemon juice, 12-15 lemons
  • 2 cups  basil simple syrup – recipe below
  • 2 cups  cold still or sparkling water
  • lemon wedge for garnish
  • ice

directions

  • Mix lemon juice, basil simple syrup, and water together in a pitcher
  • Store in the refrigerator until ready to serve
  • Pour over ice filled glasses and garnish with a lemon wedge

Chef’s tip: have fun and experiment with different infused flavor by adding a sprig of rosemary, fresh blueberries, honey, or even chopped watermelon

basil simple syrup

  • 1 bunch  fresh basil; washed, bruised, and stemmed
  • 2 cups  sugar
  • 1 cup   water

In a saucepan combine ingredients and simmer until the sugar is dissolved, approximately 5 minutes.  Cool, strain the simple syrup, and store for up to  two weeks in the refrigerator.
